You couldn't even run a lemonade stand!
This jibe raises yet again the question of why Ursula von der Leyen is where she is. Perhaps she has an aura of being harmlessly useless which suits the EU machine as an enabler of political rackets.
WhenIWasButaLad the expression was "Couldn't run a sweetie shop". The cockneys on the telly referred to a "whelk stall". I suppose Martians might say "Couldn't sweep a crater".
dearieme - one I remember was 'Couldn't run a fish and chip shop' but I recall 'whelk stall' as well. Ambitious Martians probably wouldn't have much to aim for apart from organising other Martians to sweep craters, it looks pretty barren.
DJ - yes, lemonade standards, labelling, inspections, testing, training, diversity targets, carbon footprint, sustainability and audits would just be for starters.
