What's utterly indefensible is sacking academics over inconvenient conclusions. There are gathering signs that the University, as a concept and institution, is past its best days.
Sam - yes the sacking is indefensible. It's a symptom of decline where numerous university departments lose the ability to produce good work or even maintain what was done in the past. This will become known to the best students who won't go there so the decline continues.
Scrobs - that's it, funding and whatever is needed for more funding.
