A country without a memory
Starmer accuses 'weak' Sunak of harbouring 'extremists' in his party
Sir Keir Starmer has accused the prime minister of harbouring extremists in his party after a senior Tory MP was suspended for "Islamophobic" comments.
A country without a memory is a country of madmen.
The senior Tory MP only said what other people have been saying about Sadiq Khan and his colleagues. The suspension (to my mind) is just a conditioned response to accusations by activists.
Echoes of Enoch Powell perhaps? Sacked for colourful language but vindicated by history?
DJ - and everyone knows he only said what other people have been saying, it's what he does. Even those who disagree with him must know it. Yes Powell has been vindicated.
dearieme - interesting, maybe it's essential for a political leadership CV - they must include a strong, positive example of their ability to be blatantly hypocritical.
Sam - good point, harbouring him shows an inability to identify and promote political talent which even at this late stage could add some lustre to the Tory image.

ReplyDeleteHe has a point, though. Sunak shouldn't be harbouring the likes of Anderson.
ReplyDeleteIt should be promoting them, spreading their ideas, and vigorously implementing their policies.
Depends on your vantage point. I see Starmer as an extremist.

Tammly - so do I, at least as extreme as Corbyn.
