It were like Denley Moor yesterday

  1. I was walking the dogs on the South Downs in a steady downpour yesterday afternoon. In terms of waterproofing, vegan walking boots never do a decent job. And my daughter persuaded me to buy some allegedly waterproof jacket by a company called Napapijri, labels mattering a lot to 15 year old females. Whether anything could have stood up to it is debatable.

  2. Sam - we have waterproof gear which will withstand long periods of heavy rain but we don't do much wet weather walking these days unless we really don't want to be cooped up inside all day. I had a quick look at the Napapijri site but the jackets I saw were only suitable for light rain even though they had the look of something more robust.

  3. I had short Drizabone coat. No Velcro which sticks to stuff that you don't want it to, fills with fluff and stops working. No zips which are a bugger to start when wearing gloves and always jam and become useless. Just big buttons with overlap, big pockets and ventilated shoulders. It was good. Will get another, longer one.
A British Army surplus mpv over jacket is as good, much lighter, and no pockets, but the camouflage makes me uneasy in town.

  4. Doonhamer - I've seen a few people wearing what look like long Drizabone coats, but not many. Most seem to wear gear that won't keep them dry and shoes that won't keep their feet dry.
