The Fauld Crater
An interesting account of a fairly recent visit to the Fauld Crater including aerial views taken with a drone. I was surprised to see how much of it is now obscured by a dense covering of trees and bushes.
Fascinating and tragic. Perhaps a manifestation of "familiarity breeds contempt" on the part of two unfortunate armourers with horrendous results for so many.
Jannie - I wonder if they had time to think "oops".
Sam - it is interesting and I'm sure most of us have seen examples. On a vastly smaller scale, one of our walks takes us past a BMW which has been parked in the same place for several years. Even that is already being invaded by vegetation.
dearieme - they do fade from memory surprisingly quickly. I've never heard of that one.

ReplyDeleteFascinating stuff. I'd never heard of this disaster before. For an interesting recent discussion on regrowth of vegetation, this is interesting:

Disasters fade from memory surprisingly quickly. How many know this story?
