I think the two points are related, in that people get jobs and public positions through lying, and then have to embark upon a career of perpetual obscurantism in order to survive.
Sam - and that career of perpetual obscurantism suits like-minded colleagues. As if entire organisations fail to keep things simple by encouraging truthfulness and eventually become mired in complexities.
