I seem to remember that during my childhood there were little people we referred to as goblins. As I recall it, their exploits were recorded
in colourful books so we could recognise and deal with them in daily life.
Yet these days I hear nothing of goblins. Did they die out, mutate or what?
My theory, and it is only a theory at present, is that they became middle class.
Bercow is undoubtedly a goblin. So is Andrew Mitchell. There is no doubt that Alex Salmond is a Scottish version, and so is Sir David Steel. I think Sir Alan Sugar is. Keith Vaz is a possible, but is more likely to be something mendaciously oily from the Arabian Nights.
ReplyDeleteLittle-known fact: I also got a First Class BA in Government from the University of Essex, just like Bercow. I console myself with the fact that mine was several years earlier, and before the time when they handed them out like confetti. Otherwise I would send mine back, like those old chaps when the Beatles got medals.
