Self-editing

When you speak or think, do find yourself casting around for the right words? If so, then do you also seek to influence yourself – are you conscious of a feedback mechanism which censors, approves or adjusts your own words and thereby tries to improve your own thinking?

One further question:-

Is everyone much the same in this? Do we all seek to improve our understanding by using our own words to edit our own thoughts?

Or do some only seek to edit others?

Both.

Feedback is the right word, only mine seems to work like the sort you get with microphones, giving off a distracting whine and occasionally rendering me all but incoherent.

Listening to many of the professional offence-seekers out there, it becomes clear that they speak largely in pre-programmed phrases and buzzwords such as that New Labour standby 'empoweringyungpeeple'.

Yes - perhaps not often enough, or quickly enough.

Demetrius - probably.

Mac - maybe the feedback stops us from doing what the pros do. I wonder how fundamental it is?

Sackers - me too - endless editing.

Yes and no...

The older one gets, the more one considers the way to speak, and that means that there isn't the spontaneity which would normally be expected.

I mean, us oldies take longer to be smart...

But we get there - eventually..;0)

Scrobs - good point. Younger people often rattle away don't they.
